It is sometimes hard to avoid the camera flashes on a night out, it is almost guaranteed that someone in your group will decide to document your exploits whether you like it or not! Cameras are becoming a staple accessory for any event, whether it is an alcohol fuelled night out or a quiet night in. Every day Facebook in inundated with albums of even the most mundane activities, causing many of us to dread the inevitable ‘you have been tagged’ message. Facebook has helpfully made the photo process even easier, using technology that will suggest who is in a single photo based on facial recognition. Serial snappers can now avoid the tedious single tag feature and allow the ‘tag-suggestion’ feature to match the new photos to other that users have already been tagged in.
The social network site already offers a way to tag one person in a group of photos however by introducing this new feature it will add even more simplicity to the process. Only friends will be able to tag each other and only those that you are already linked to will come up as a suggestion. Those that do not want their face to pop up as a tag-suggestion can simply opt out of the service using the sites privacy settings.
Facebook have released a blog singing the praises of the new tagging update explaining that ‘By making tagging easier than before, you're more likely to know right away when friends post photos. We notify you when you're tagged, and you can un-tag yourself at any time. As always, only friends can tag each other in photos.'
The technology will ensure that the next time 100 photos are uploaded of a night that you would rather forget, Facebook will match even the most distorted face and suggest names based on previous images. Whether you think it is a genius time saving idea or another reason to duck when the inevitable flashes start to go off, the tag suggestion is set to be another update that becomes part of everyday Facebook life.
