Internet Invasion: Tweets for the Womb

Trawl through any social networking site and you are guaranteed to find a profile page for someones beloved dog or cat who's owner takes it upon themselves to update the world on their 'adorable' daily habits. Some people find this cute, hopefully the majority find it weird. Over the past few months another craze has taken over social network and blog sites, that of expectant parents setting up pages for their unborn offspring. Dont get me wrong, I can fully understand how exciting impending parenthood must be, but surely updates from the womb are not just pointless, they are outright lies. Some of the best ones I have come across include a baby telling off its father for watching the football when it's mother wants to watch the soaps, I may not be an expert on baby mind growth but even I know that it is too young to take sides in daily domestics.

An American physician has even gone so far as to create a belt for expectant mothes to wear during pregnancy that transmits real time updates to an online site whenever the baby kicks. The 'Kickbee' uses sensors to track the baby in the womb creating a small electrical current when tapped by the baby's movement. This signal is them sent directly to the website using wireless Bluetooth technology. The updates are all along the lines of 'I kicked mummy at 03:15am' and are being developed to be used on sites such as Facebook and Twitter. I can imagine the first update would cause quite the commotion on social network sites, imagine the amount of likes or ‘omg thts amazn’ that will fill up the status box. However when you are logging on and are confronted by 112 updates after a particulary eventful night, surely the Kickbee will love its novelty.

Personally I enjoy seeing friends upload their scan pictures and photo's of wrinkly newborns, however being presented with 'I have decided to attack mummy's bladder for three hours teehee' is possibly pushing my tolerance limits and will have me reaching for the delete button.
