PlayStation Hack: Will you go back to Sony?

Over the last few weeks it seems as though the online world has split into two definitive factions, those that have been affected by the PlayStation network hack or those that are feeling smug about their decision to purchase an Xbox instead. The infiltration of Sony’s PlayStation network has affected over 2.2 million users, with personal details and credit card numbers stolen in what many believe to be the biggest online hack in history. Sony has updated their blog to apologise to their network of users, warning them that it is a possibility that their details could wind up in the wrong hands. Although security experts are investigating the breach of security, it seems that it is a case of too little too late for the technological giant.

At the time of writing, the PlayStation network has been down for eleven days, for a hardcore gamer this is the equivalent of a lifetime. For many, online gaming networks are more than simply a way to pass the time; it is a lifeline to the outside world and a way to connect with friends all across the globe. If you have been affected by the PlayStation hack and are trying to fathom ways to spend your time, be comforted by the fact that you are not alone. Thousands of angry users have bombarded forums and social network sites with angry messages, frustrated rants and defensive standpoints against smug Xbox users.

Hopefully by the time you read this, the network will be back up and running allowing PlayStation users to rejoin their virtual friends and reignite their gaming battles. Whether or not Sony can tempt back the millions of users that have been affected by the hack remains to be seen. Already, a lawsuit has been filed against the Japanese company by a user affected by the security hack on the basis that the measures taken by the security department were lax.
