Smile! You

With so many negative stories about the dangers of the internet it is no surprise that so many people start to forget about its many positive attributes. One of the biggest plus points of the net is that it breaks down the boundaries of communication, allowing people on opposite sides of the world to chat and even view each other over a webcam. Lately Web Guy has being looking into how these communication methods have developed, from the use of programmes such as Skype to how the net can be used to communicate with others on a much larger scale. Videos and pictures can easily be shared through email or by adding them to a personal blog, but what about if you want to view an event in real time? If, like many people you have had to miss an important family event due to distance or working commitments, you will no doubt welcome to rise of real time video streaming during events such as weddings. Those rushing off to Vegas to get hitched are offered a wedding video package to allow friends and family to watch the service at home as and when it happens, a fantastic option for those who can’t travel. Recently another trend has emerged, resulting in a higher demand for video streaming services at a very different type of family event, a funeral.

A UK company is currently offering to broadcast a funeral service across the internet to allow mourners who cannot attend the actual service to witness the ceremony. Using high definition webcams the service is relayed across the net via a secure website which can only be accessed by a password. The price for this service is £40, which many would class as being a small price to pay for allowing far flung relatives to say goodbye, the actual video will stay online for a week or even longer depending on the family’s wishes. Many church officials have given the concept their blessing with Worchester Crematorium already considering installing the system as an option for mourners.
