Librarians look away now; the electronic reading device has well and truly arrived and the best news is that they are surprisingly affordable. Although Amazon’s Kindle is still reigning supreme at the top of the e-reader charts, there are several contenders looking to take its crown. With the ability to hold over 3,000 titles, it is no surprise that more and more people are choosing to pick up one of these devices instead of a traditional book. Night owls will appreciate the light up feature and the power savings mode to ensure that you are not caught with a flat battery on your daily commute. One thing that the £52 device does lack is an internet connection, unlike the Kindle which allows users to download e-books anywhere they are. Critics of the budget e-reader have claimed that buying a cheaper version will lead to a poor quality product however Asda are defending the 'Mediabox' stating that it is designed to offer 'affordable literature'.
With the Kindle currently on sale for £111 for the non 3G version and £152 for those opting for the 3G enabled versions, there is a pretty significant gap in price. Whether you choose to pick up the budget version of fancy joining the eight million people to already own a Kindle across the US and UK, the only drawback is that your bookmark is now officially redundant!
