Tweeting Through Labour

Tweeting Through Labour

It is fair to say that Web Guy does spend a fair amount of time shaking his head in disbelief when searching the internet. From questionable adult sites to cringe worthy virals it seems that there are no limits when it comes to internet content. Just a few months ago Web Guy reported on the Twitter application that broadcasted every kick and movement of a newborn baby straight to the social media site. This month we are pleased/baffled to bring you the latest development in baby-centric social media developments, with the story of the woman who gave birth on Twitter.

Thirty year old Mel Wilson decided that simply sharing the odd details of her pregnancy wasn’t enough therefore chose to embark on a Twitter mission, sharing every single minute of her labour with her 600+ followers. Up until her due date Ms Wilson has also been providing her followers with a day to day update on her pregnancy, a fairly common choice for tech savvy mothers to be. When Ms Wilson reported the first contraction on Twitter many of her followers had expected her to log off, however this was just the start of a now famous Twitter marathon. Regular updates were posted to the site all throughout the evening, carrying on into the next day with vivid descriptions of just how she was feeling. As the contractions grew stronger more and more people started following the progress on Twitter eventually making it one of the coveted top trending subjects on the site.

After twenty five hours and a barrage of tweets, entranced followers were rewarded with a picture of the newborn baby girl. When asked why she decided to share this traditionally private moment with the Twitter world, Ms Wilson simply stated that I’m always on Twitter, so it would have been weird for me to go quiet all of a sudden.
