What Does Your Font Say About You?

In today’s world it appears that writing is becoming a thing of the past, typing has replaced the old fashioned pen and paper approach and more and more people are opting to create their documents electronically. This is all well good as it eradicates many of the annoyances that used to come along with handwritten documents.

First of all it takes away the need to try and decipher really bad handwriting, no longer do you have struggle to read a memo that looks like it has been written by a spider. Secondly the convenient spell check function ensures that you do not have to suffer the embarrassment of sending a letter that reads like a five year olds school project. However one thing that still sets people apart with their electronic work is which font they choose to use. It may not seem like a major decision but your chosen font will say a lot about your character. Many businesses refuse to accept CV’s that are written in anything other than Times New Roman and anyone thinking of writing a letter of complaint will be laughed out of the door when opting for Comic Sans. The next time you open up a document and start typing, make sure you consider just what your font says about you!

Courier new

Fans of this straight talking font may believe that they are projecting themselves as a serious, business minded individual. In reality many people receiving a letter typed solely in Courier New will simply wonder why you are pretending to own a typewriter.

Comic Sans

Ah Comic Sans, the friendly font that is favoured by quirky individuals that want their document to be ‘remembered’. Unfortunately those writing in Comic Sans will simply be setting themselves up for a life of no reply as many businesses file this font in the ‘absolutely no way’ folder.

Bradley Hand ITC

Simple really, if you want to make it look like your own writing. Pick up a pen.

Arial

According to a recent survey, Arial is officially the worlds’ favourite font. Its unthreatening curves are even welcome on official documents making it a fantastic alternative for those looking to branch out form the confines of Times New Roman.
