iPad: The Next Generation

iPad: The Next Generation

It seems like only yesterday that Apple launched the highly coveted iPad, the device that caused crowds to bombard Apple stores around the globe and tailors to create specially designed suit pockets to accommodate it. The iPad, like the iPod and iPhone before it has gone on to become a definitive status symbol for those looking to stay in the technological loop. If, like me you could not justify forking out the money for the iPad, now is the time to breathe a sigh of relief. The once hard to find iPad has had a major price reduction making it more accessible for those who couldn’t afford the launch price. Why the price reduction? Typically Apple has decided that the iPad has had its day and has launched the not so long awaited, iPad2.

In less than twenty four hours, the second generation iPad had sold out all across the UK. Claiming to be the thinner and faster version of its predecessor, the iPad2 launch led to eager customers camping in front of Apple stores across the country just to get their mitts on its shiny surface. The same scenes were witnessed earlier this month as the iPad2 was launched in the US. Over the course of the opening weekend, it is estimated that over 500,000 devices were sold across the States. Those that have ordered their devices online are facing a wait of up to four weeks as Apple tries to copes with the staggering back log of orders placed. It is also expected that the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan will also affect production of the iPad due to component shortages.

The iPad2 was launched for £30 less than the initial price of the iPad, a sign that the second generation device was always going to cause a mad rush for the checkouts. Whether you are planning on buying this latest technological device or are hoping to sneak in and pick up a cheap iPad for a lower price, be prepared to see even more of these handheld computers on your commute to work.
